Register with a GP service

Over 97% of practices and 90% of branches in England are now enrolled in the ‘Register with a GP Surgery’ service, with over 60% of all national registrations taking place digitally.

Whilst this is great progress, we still see some practices with low usage. Leading practices are now seeing over 80% of their registrations coming through digitally.  However, over 2000 practices are still only processing less than 40% of their registrations through the service.

We are now requesting your support in further increasing the use of the service, as we gain momentum on integrating the national registration service into GP Clinical Systems. Increasing use of the service will help to reduce the administrative burden for practices, which will further reduce as the GPIT suppliers integrate with the service later this year.

We know that practices highlighting the GP registration service on their websites see a much higher usage of the digital service, so we are requesting that all practices:

  1. Include the URL issued by the national service on enrolment onto their new patient registration areas
  2. Remove any existing links to legacy website provider data capture forms and/or practice generated downloadable forms.  Only the digital ‘Register with a GP Surgery’ Service and new paper forms are acceptable methods of patient registration for practices in England
  3. Use the new paper form (PRF1) rather than the GMS1 form (which has now been decommissioned by the Primary Care Support England)

For those who have already signed up to the online service, you can now access the new paper form here. You can also link to it on your own website.

You can find out about the work we’ve recently completed, and next steps for the service, by viewing our roadmap.

GP IT integration will integrate the Register with a GP surgery service with primary care clinical systems, reducing the amount of time to register a patient at GP practices. Over the coming months, NHS England will be delivering a pilot roll-out of this integration with a number of practices. We will be in touch again soon with further information on the pilot

Please get in touch with us at england.register-gp-surgery.support@nhs.net if you need help setting the service up in your practice.
